5 Reasons Why You Should Visit Barcelona
Barcelona is one of the most popular cities in Europe. From its nice beaches overlooking the Mediterranean sea to its rich history and modern architecture. There are many reasons why you should visit the Catalonian capital but we’ll start with just 5.
The Architecture
A famous example of the fascinating architecture in this city is the La Sagrada Familia. This church has become one of the symbols of Barcelona and it isn’t even finished yet! This building attracts about 2.8 million visitors a year and is said to be the most visited monument in all of Spain. Designed by Catalan architect, Antoni Gaudi, construction of the church began in 1882 and is expected to be completed by 2026. Ticket prices begin at €15 for adults.
The Food
Of course food is an important part of any trip and it definitely applies here in Barcelona. Being so close to the Mediterranean sea, seafood plays an important role in Catalan cuisine. There is also a culture around eating in Barcelona. Lunch (the most important meal of the day in Spain and from about 2-4PM) is typically a 3-course meal, with many people leaving work to go back home to eat with their family. Be prepared to eat late as locals typically eat dinner from 9-10:30PM. For more Spanish customs click here.
