Preparing for your first Bikini Wax Appointment
Summertime is just around the corner so you've probably been thinking for awhile to finally try getting a bikini wax. You have decided to forget (or at least try to) all the horror stories you may have heard from friends and the Internet, and booked your first appointment. Below we help you to prepare before you go in for your first bikini wax.

Place Matters
Please don't just pick the random waxing salon that you drive by everyday on your way to work. Actually do some research on where the best place to go is by reading reviews online and asking your friends and family. You also want to go somewhere that practices good hygiene. Watch out for things like the esthetician double dipping - dipping the same stick into the pot of wax repeatedly. The place you pick can make all the difference between having a good or bad waxing experience.
Let Your Hair Grow
Your hair should be about one-quarter inch long to be effectively waxed. If it's shorter than that it might be hard for the wax to grab the hair and if it's too long your hair would have to be trimmed.
Freshen Up
Need we say more? It's probably not best to skip a shower the day of your appointment or head to your appointment straight from the gym. Wipes are also available in the bathrooms of the waxing salon for your convenience.
Exfoliate Regularly
Exfoliating on the day of your appointment will help to get rid of dead skin. You can exfoliate with your favorite body scrub, with a loofah or by adding sugar to your body wash. Remember to exfoliate gently and only a couple of times a week.
Pain Medication
Taking a pain reliever, such as Advil, about 30 minutes before your appointment may help ease the pain of waxing. However, this does not work for everyone and many people don't feel like taking over-the-counter pain meds helped relieve their pain at all.
Be Comfortable
Easier said than done we know. Especially when you're naked from the waist down in the presence of a complete stranger. Try and remind yourself that your esthetician is a professional and has done this countless times. She will most likely make small talk with you and believe it or not you'll be made to feel at ease. You'll be done before you know it!
Speak Up
Don’t be afraid to speak up to your esthetician if you feel uncomfortable, are in serious pain or have any questions or concerns. They want you to feel comfortable and won’t know something is wrong if you don’t tell them! Don’t want to go through with it halfway or need to take a break? That’s okay too.
Congratulations! You made it through your first appointment. Some salons have hand outs on what to do after a waxing appointment. We'll go over a few things below:
• The area may feel very sore afterwards. Aloe Vera is a great way to soothe the area and feel relief immediately.
• No-one likes ingrown hairs. Keep ingrowns to a minimum by exfoliating regularly and using products that prevent ingrown hair.
• Be careful with your activities after getting a wax. Your follicles are wide open and are more susceptible to getting bacteria. Do not go swimming, work out or sunbathe till at least 24 hours after getting a wax.
We hope that we've helped you prepare for your first waxing appointment. Most people agree that waxing gets less painful the more you do it so try and be regular and get it done every 4 weeks.
