5 Best Foods for Healthy Skin

Many times, people forget how important their daily diet is to having good skin. No matter how many skincare products you use, if you're not eating right it'll show on your skin. Below we explore 5 foods that will help you get flawless skin.

Olive Oil

Olive oil contains three major antioxidants: Vitamin E, Polyphenols and Phytosterols. These antioxidants help protect the skin from premature aging and also fight to repair damaged skin due to sun exposure and other pollutants. Olive oil is also great because it can be used in many ways. In addition to infusing olive oil into your daily diet, olive oil can be used as an exfoliator (mix it with sea salt), moisturizer and makeup remover.

Green Tea

Not only is green tea a great way to help you relax, it is also packed full of antioxidants that fight inflammation. One of the antioxidants in green tea, EGCG, has been proven to reduce redness and swelling. Drink at least one cup a day and be on your way to healthy skin. To reduce puffiness around your eyes, chill damp tea bags in the fridge and then place on your eyes for about 10 minutes.

Dark Chocolate

Yep, you read this right. Dark chocolate (in moderate amounts) is actually great for your skin. Dark chocolate contains many potent antioxidants, such as flavonols, that protect your skin from free radical damage leaving your skin supple and soft. Dark chocolate also helps to shield your skin against UV rays and keep your skin radiant.

Avocado

Avocados contain fatty acids that help protect your skin and keep it moist and healthy looking. They also do a great job at protecting your skin from sun damage and inflammation. Avocado contains antioxidants, such as Vitamin E, that fight to protect the skin against free radicals. Avocado also contains Biotin, without which you may have very dry skin. Don’t like eating avocado? No problem! There are many homemade avocado face masks you can make easily.

Tomato

Last but not least, we have tomatoes. Tomatoes are rich in lycopene which keeps your skin as soft as a baby's and helps to protect you from harsh rays from the sun. Tomatoes also help to prevent premature aging by enabling your skin to absorb more oxygen. Finally, tomatoes help your skin to delay wrinkling. Ever heard of a tomato face mask? Try out one of the recipes here.
